Miss Lydia Yavorska

This week’s Sepia Saturday theme is ‘hair’ and I have featured some cracking hair do’s in the past: check them out here and here. I chose this picture of Lydia Yavorska because I really liked her hairwrap- it’s rather modern, don’t you think?

Lydia had quite a fascinating life, running a theatre in St Petersburg and marrying both a Russian Prince and a British playwright; she was both a Princess and, late in life, a Lady. She’s also another of the old theatre actresses who died in Brighton, which seems to have been a popular retirement resort for ageing thespians. Her portraits are held by the National Portrait Gallery in London.

A very attractive woman enhanced by her hair. Who was the britich playwright you mentioned?

Her hairdo reminds me of a lopsided layer cake. It looks like the top will fall off if she isn’t careful.

What a beauty. Love the hairdo with the ribbons incorporated. Wonder how she slept with that do.

She was a lovely lady. I really like her hair wrap even to wear today.

What a lovely actress – great hairwrap too! Enjoyed the other pictures, especially the lady with the ring curls. Wonder how long it took to style her hair?

Lydia looks very confident, and a little cheeky – I bet she was fun at a party!

Oh I can imagine a very thick and sexy accent each time she spoke.
